Reiki is a type of natural healing that involves the use of universal life force energy. The term is derived from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which refers to vital life force energy that runs throughout all living things.
There is growing evidence to suggest Reiki can help with sleep, pain, anxiety and depression, stress management, and management of symptoms of chronic health problems. If you are interested in trying out Reiki, here is what you need to know to get started.
Is Reiki Right for Me?
The practice of Reiki is noninvasive and gentle, so almost anyone can benefit from it. Reiki is usually used as a complementary treatment to relieve stress, anxiety, or prepare for or recover from surgery. The process has the potential to boost the effectiveness of other medical treatments as it reduces stress, which can impede healing.
What Can I Expect in a Reiki Session?
Typically, a session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. As the practitioner describes the session to a client, they will give the client the opportunity to discuss any particular issues they are experiencing and ask what the client hopes to achieve from the session.
After removing their shoes, the client will lie on a massage table on their back. The client can also sit comfortably in a chair while receiving Reiki. In a hands-on session, a Practitioner applies light touch during the session, while in a hands-off session, they hold their hands slightly above your body. Clients who prefer not to be touched can let their practitioner know before their session begins.
Reiki practitioners follow specific Reiki hand positions, beginning at the head or the feet. It should be a relaxing and energizing experience. These sessions are commonly enhanced with the use of stones and crystals.
What Should I Wear to a Reiki Session?
In contrast to massage therapy, clients are always fully clothed, and no articles of clothing are removed. It is recommended to dress loosely and comfortably.
How Often Should I Get Reiki Treatment?
Depending on how severe the problem is, sometimes one Reiki session is sufficient to resolve it, and sometimes it takes several sessions. Based on the issue you want to address, your Reiki practitioner may be able to give you a better idea of how often you should go.
Reiki is a spiritual practice, so you can receive it as frequently as you like.
Should I Invest in Healing Crystals?
Many people swear by their powers. If you’re interested in trying them out, be sure to keep an open mind and see what each stone has to offer. If you are not sure which would work best for you, consult with your local Reiki practitioner at Universal Healing Arts for recommendations.
